David has 30 years’ experience gained from working on multi million pound building, civil engineering, transportation, utility and mechanical and electrical projects in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and Middle East for employers, main contractors and sub-contractors.
David trained as a quantity surveyor with a national firm of contractors. Over a 10 year period David gained experience of various forms of procurement, different main contracts and sub-contracts, and carried out a full range of quantity surveying and commercial management duties on a wide range of projects. David also closed out projects that had financial problems; undertook damage limitation exercises; prepared contractual claims and provided assistance during arbitration and conciliation proceedings.
David has spent the last 20 years providing specialist commercial and contractual consultancy services to the construction industry. This includes providing commercial and contractual advice, undertaking performance audits, preparing and defending extension of time, and loss and/or expense claims, representing parties in adjudication and mediation as well as acting as adjudicator and mediator, assisting and acting as quantum expert.
David entered the expert service field by assisting various quantum experts; he received report writing training from the Academy of Experts and Bond Solon and cross examination training from Bond Solon.
David acted as a party appointed quantum expert on disputes that have been referred to adjudication, litigation and arbitration as well as a single joint expert on cases referred to litigation. He has received instructions on circa 25 cases, the first being in 2001.
As a quantum expert, David has attended expert meetings, prepared joint statements and expert reports, and provided opinion on various matters including reasonableness of interim valuations, valuation of variations and defects, prolongation and disruption costs and professional fees. David has also provided oral testimony in the TCC (London) as a witness of fact on a case where he was the quantum expert.
