David learned the building process, the specific skills of measurement, work study, and construction planning working for a local authority direct labour organisation. He went on to further advance these skills – including project management – during 22 years of working for building and civil engineering contractors with signature projects including the M25 motorway; Manchester Airport Terminal 2; and the new Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) building.
David made the move to consulting in 2000, as this was a role where he could best utilise his experience and provide clients with practical, straightforward advice. He is regularly instructed as an expert to analyse the cause of project delay or act as a project advisor. Many of the commissions related to infrastructure, marine, civil engineering, pipelines, and building projects on behalf of main contractors or employers; but others include train manufacture, ship building, and sub-sea mining equipment manufacture.
David’s reports have been presented in various tribunals including the Technology and Construction Court (TCC), Court of Session (Scotland), Dutch Court, and UK arbitration and adjudication; and he has been cross-examined. Capable of quickly locating the key issues and articulating his analysis clearly and concisely; David has established himself as a delay expert with a highly successful track record. Complex disputes are frequently settled in favour of his client.
In an adjudication his analysis demonstrated a 120 week delay against an original 104 week contract period. The adjudicator agreed entirely with David’s analysis and in his decision commented that David had “articulated his analysis clearly” and his report was “clear and comprehensive”.
David’s project management experience has been utilised to prepare and lead recovery strategies for distressed projects. He has also performed due diligence exercises in connection with mergers and acquisition.
